Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely! This is highly encouraged since we do not follow a strict curriculum. No class looks the same, we meet you and your dog where they’re at. Each class is tailored to support the dogs that are present, this may mean that each dog has wildly different skill levels.
-
Absolutely! Our group classes are designed to build confidence and neutrality. We strictly limit class size to maintain distance, manage distractions and foster a strong learning environment for the dogs attending! Make sure to bring this up during your consultation so we can ensure this is the best option for you and your dog!
-
We do this to protect the learning environments for each dog. This lets us learn your dog’s specific needs, evaluate their comfort level, and ensure they will be set up for success! This also gives us an opportunity to get to know you as the human!
-
Please bring your dog on a standard flat collar or a well-fitted harness with a 4 or 6ft leash. No retractable leashes, slip leads, or corrective collars. You will always want to bring a treat pouch packed with plenty of small soft high-value treats. If you are interested in the Recall classes, we highly recommend purchasing a good quality dog whistle as well.
-
Flex passes are an opportunity for you to purchase multiple spots for the same or different classes. These can be great if you have multiple behaviors you want to work on, want the extra accountability or utilize the class for distractions. These passes can be purchased at any point after the consultation is finished and but will expire if not used within 6 months or 1 year depending on the package.
-
Your family can absolutely come with you, in most cases is encouraged!
Due to the variety of personalities that can attend these classes, we ask that you not bring children under the age of 16. Accommodations can be made for younger children but strict adherence of the rules is required.
-
This, unfortunately, is not advised. Sometimes dogs from the same household can get competitive with each other, or excite each other more. This can take away from the learning they both may get from the classes.
To be able to bring more than one dog to a class, they must demonstrate the ability to learn independently of each other, must be handled by a separate adult 18 years or older, follow the 15ft rule, and pay for an additional spot in the class.
-
If your dog struggles with intense barking, lunging or aggression when seeing other dogs or people. A group class is not a suitable environment for your dog. Our main focus is ensuring your dog feels safe while learning. If group classes are a goal of yours, we recommend starting with private lessons first and then your dog can be invited to a group lesson!
-
Each Drop-in session runs for 45 to 50 minutes. This ends up being a great balance of time for both humans and dogs before boredom or tiredness overtakes us. All classes are held outdoors at Paws Claws and Stalls Pet Lodge in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
-
Since spots are limited, we require 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or change your reservation. If the class is canceled for any reason, you will be notified via email text or our facebook page at least two hours prior and your session will be credited to another class/date. Classes may be canceled due to weather.
-
